Catching Up Part ll

To follow up my last post.. here is New Year’s through now in (mostly) pictures.

photo-24 (2)

We planned on a nice quiet New Year’s in, playing Uno on the couch, to be exact. That’s what we did last year and it was surprisingly fun. One of our friends was having a get together though, so we agreed to stop by there for a bit and say hi. Our friend’s new roommate is from CA where fireworks aren’t allowed.. so of course we had to show him how NYE works in Phoenix. We started with sparklers and as you can probably predict we felt like we had to stay for the midnight finale. Our “quiet night in” ended with us closing down the bar behind J’s house at 3am. Oopsie.. ha!

photo (2)

Finale was literally this x6.. good times.

In mid January J told me about a painting class that he had found online that was a great deal. As in FREE + they gave us a ton of wine goodies + apron to promote/celebrate the launch of a new season of Cougar Town. J and I rounded up a bunch of friends + coworkers and made a bit of a party out of it.

After all that fun I followed up January with a month long cold from HELL. SO glad that’s over!

“The Creeper”.

There was lots of tabloid reading in the bathtub and that was about it other than the bare necessities for work.

Tennyson is only friendly when I’m in the bath tub. Weirdest cat around.

He enjoys tea, too. Apparently.

Other than trying to survive the cold of 2014 (I’m a little dramatic.. maybe) + working — most of my spare time was spent planning my Grandpa’s 90th birthday.

He’s been in business for 70+ years, he has a large family and he’s just all around awesome so there were a tonnn of people at his party. I think 100+ showed up.

My favorite picture of the day. They have been friends for 60+ years.

The end of February/ the beginning of March brought a huge increase in business.. like 3X. It’s hectic, but I love it so much.

Other than work, it seems everyone I know was born in February, so there were lotssss of birthdays to attend.

My favorite “selfie” ever.

T and I had a great Valentine’s day evening together. We got with the wedding photographer and finalized things and then he took me out for a really nice dinner.

(No pictures, because I suck).

I surprised him and told him that I am going to be taking his last name. (I was seriously on the fence).

Not my future last name, but I made something similar to this and wrapped it up for him to open. 🙂

J was kind enough to take me as his date for this quarter’s Cactus League event.

The venue was gorgeous, as always :-).

Annd this time I’m not making any promises as to when I will be back. I have been pre-writing, so it should be soon. But then again, every time that I say that it never is haha.

Weekend Recap.. X3

Hey Everyone.. sorry I went MIA once again. Funny how life gets in the way of blogging 🙂

The title of this post is pretty misleading, I am only going to recap one weekend. The weekend of the 16th, it was fun and I want make sure I remember it!

Sami's Shenanigans

Dirty Girl 5k- 2013

This was the second year that I participated in the event, and it was very different but still lots of fun. I think the changes were mainly due to safety. Little E almost died last year.. and I am not even exaggerating. She’s tiny and a larger (normal sized? lol) woman bounced next to her on one of the huge inflatables and E almost flew off the side. I actually hurt my ankle pretty badly on one of the rope obstacles too. This year was more regulated,  less muddy and ropey, but there were significantly fewer injuries too.

Did I mention the water was FREEZING?

I pushed myself and did ALL the obstacles (I don’t do heights..) so I was pretty proud of that as well :). It helped that I run with a couple coworkers and a couple more came to cheer us on.

After the race we got cleaned up and headed over to another friends baby shower. It was a co-ed shower, so I enjoyed the fact that the guys had to suffer too. (Can you tell I’m not big on showers?). I enjoy giving gifts.. but they dumb games wear on me a little. This particular shower had some interesting games though. T won “pin the sperm on the egg” and J won the guess the belly circumference one.. T let me pick the gift and I got a $20 Micheal’s gift card though. Woo! lol

Cutest little photobomber around 🙂

On Sunday morning we went on a horseback ride at one of the venues that T and I looked at. The place is AMAZING, but it’s tucked back on a dirt road and about 90 minutes out of town so we ruled it out.

photo-1

The horses we rode were BEAUTIFUL and really sweet. I wanted to steal the girl I rode.

T rode a BEAST of a horse..

photo-5

The guide holding him is my height (5’9)..

photo-3 photo-2

My dad got to ride his favorite kind of horse too 🙂

Our guide was pretty awesome too. He gave us the Arizona tourist spiel, and even though we are local it was cool to hear. Mainly it was awesome to just be out in the desert, enjoying the breeze and doing nothing at all.

photo-6

There are all kinds of arrowheads, hieroglyphics and old Indian hide outs around the area.

The place we went has a old time town set up (read more here). So we stopped there and had lunch and played games. There was horseshoes, hatchet throwing, shooting, archery, roping, and a few others.

Weekend Recap.. A Day Late

Happy Tuesday everyone!

I am such a rebel- posting a weekend recap on Tuesday afternoon. I impress myself 🙂

Last weekend was so much fun, but definitely one of those weekends that you need another weekend after the fact to recover from. Does any one else enjoy lazy weekends as much as I do? As in you need a minimum of one a month?

Between commuting, working two jobs, maintaining friendships and the normal day to day stuff I just never get to housework on weekdays. I try to clean as I go, but I NEED those weekends to catch up! Who has the willpower to deep clean grout on a Wednesday night?? Not me! (I wish I did though!)

Friday started out pretty low. I drove 40 miles to attend my Great Aunt’s funeral. She was ill and we knew it was coming, but it still didn’t make it much easier. After the funeral I went and picked up T and I’s race packets for the COLOR ME RAD. After that 20 mile trek I headed into my other job. Luckily for me Friday traffic was pretty light so I made it in in 40 minutes. After work, I spent rest of the evening cleaning, meal planning, grocery shopping and running other random errands.

Saturday was the fun day! We got up and drove out to Goodyear to participate in the Color Me Rad 5k. We underestimated how long it would take it get there and we ended up getting to the race three minutes after we were supposed to start running. The race times were a little confusing- I signed up for the 9:30 wave originally. About 2 weeks before the race I got an e-mail saying that all the waves would be starting at 10. Then I got another e-mail saying go with you original time. Then I decided to check out the times online and they had them scheduled for 9:20 and 9:40. All the confusion really worked to our advantage though- we fell in with what I think was the 9:40 wave (who started early).

photo

Starting Line from a distance.

This was the first color run type run that I have participated in, and I have to say out of the 5 races I have done it was definitely my favorite. I didn’t train much (aka not at all), but I surprised myself and ran a good portion of it. T is/was recovering from a chest cold, so for the first time ever I was even faster than him :). I’ll take what I can get here people!

All of the runners were excited and all of the volunteers were great. The police who were working the event were all cool and cheering everyone on as well. There were a ton of adorable kids (ahhhhhh!) One of my favorite parts of the run was when one of the motor cops let some little girls “color bomb” him and then let her and another little one sit on his bike for a photo- op. Community relations was out in full force and I was loving it.

After the race we rushed home to clean ourselves up and wait for the cable guy. Did I mention that have cable again? I am a little too excited about it I think! haha. I’ve missed watching my trash tv… I’ve been referring to myself as (pop) culturally irrelevant, and [maybe] sadly it really wasn’t an exaggeration.

The cable guy was actually supposed to come last weekend, but Cox forgot to put the work order in so it got pushed to this weekend. My lovely mom was kind enough to come hang out at our place for a bit in case we didn’t make it back in time. We were luckily that she was willing too, because he beat us by about 10 minutes.

The tech that came out and installed it was really strange.. When T and I pulled up in the driveway he completely glared at us and grunted at T when he asked him if he would like a water bottle. The guy was in and out of the house, so we just let him go about doing his own thing. T was in the backyard and me and my mom were in the kitchen. She was sitting with me while I did dishes, and after 15 or so minutes I realized the dude was just sitting on out couch watching Saturday afternoon football. He didn’t leave until he got a call from his next customer asking where he was. The whole thing was sooo weird!

After the weird cable guy left T and I hung out for an hour or so and then it was time to get ready for Cactus League.  Cactus League is T’s company event for all the employees who have had outstanding numbers that quarter. T has made the last nine events, but didn’t make this one due to being responsible for a new team. The company always goes all out and makes sure that the events are amazing. Luckily for me I have made friends with pretty much all his coworkers and I have the best fiance ever. Soo I ended up going to T’s company event with J and E while Trent hung out at home and watched UFC fights un-harassed by me.

photo-5

My man date and I. Is it just me or does this photo remind anyone else of a modern American Gothic?? (Maybe I should mention that I am sitting in a rocking chair?) haha!

photo-4

My lady date and I.

photo-3

I always look like the Jolly Green Giant next to cute, petite E.

So T was watching UFC.. or so I thought. One of our friends Grandmother’s recently passed away and I asked her to shoot me a text when she felt like hanging out because I haven’t gotten to see her in the month or so since it happened. While I was out she sent me a text saying she was out. I asked her where and she said with my husband! Ha! It was then that I found out T doesn’t like UFC as much as he thought and got bored so he decided to go out.

After the event I met G, T and T’s family out at the grill that they all frequent. It was a fun night, but there were definitely too many drinks involved for my old [term used loosely] body. I was super excited to see G though, and glad to see that she was doing relatively okay.

Sunday morning I woke up bright and early at 8am (ha!) to put together the brunch I invited my mom and Amy to. We had a lovely girly morning of brunch and bridal magazines.

After brunch T and I had a class at a local painting studio. The class was byob, but we were pretty boozed out from the night before. About halfway through the class I realized that T is actually a really good artist. I also realized that maybe I should have brought booze, because I suck at painting and I’m pretty sure it would have only improved my painting! haha

photo-1

T’s painting. I’ll share my weight on the internet, but not my lack of artistic skills.

On Friday T won basketball tickets through work to a Phoenix Suns game, so after our class we headed out to that. The tickets were pretty much court side and included full access to the Blue Moon Club. This weekend was packed and unbelievably fun, but not good diet-wise.

I know it’s Tuesday, but how was everyone’s weekend? Good I hope!

Catching Up- Oh Monday

g

Why can’t weekends be 5 days and work weeks be TWO??

Who am I kidding? I haven’t had a weekend since I went to San Diego for 2.5 days last month.  I feel like my life is one giant “life comes at you fast” commercial. Things haven’t necessarily been bad, just incredibly hectic. As I mentioned in my about me I work two jobs + have a long commute and I really just believe that there aren’t enough hours in the day. ((Updates coming to the about me and race pages, by the way)).

The wedding is coming up FAST. In preparation for this I am participating in another diet bet. I did really well with the last one- it turns out the possibility of winning $$ is very motivating to me :-). I need to get into some good habits now before Winter strikes… I am such a summer person- I ❤ sunshine. This equates to I need to start excising in the morning. I am worthless at motivating myself to do it after work! I always feel like its my time (hello cleaning), plus the gym closes at 10 so that doesn’t leave me with much time.

But enough goals and work talk. One thing my Dad has taught me is make time for friends (he never did :().

Sami's Shenanigans

So without further adieu- my weekend in pictures:

photo33

Some of the team on Saturday. We hosted a big, industry wide event and everything went surprisingly well! We only had one customer sneaking beers- a BIG no no when you’re driving a heavy truck. Our guys/the caterers were awesome and caught him quick though, and there were no other snafus!

Around 3:30 I left that I went and did some quick shopping for an engagement party we were going to.

Most of the group at the engagement party.

photo-9

J and I- New Glasses!!

Man I hit the amazing friend jackpot. I’m not sure how I am blessed enough to have so many amazing people in my life, but I sure am grateful. 🙂

There was plenty of wine consumed at the party and shortly after the group pictures were taken the following chaos ensured…

 photo-7photo-4

Ripping down balloons and throwing them your good friends is always a good idea after a couple glasses of wine.

Of course J’s main concern was his hair 🙂

Until T got vicious with the balloon launching and J went down. Lucky for J- Juan is well versed in the Heimlich.. well sorta and it helped when he put down his beer.. hahaha!

photo-8

photo-6

Good times all around, everyone was silly and it was fun to not have to worry about working for a bit.

After the engagement party we had to make another appearance.. Some of our other friends recently bought a house and they were kind enough to invite us to their Housewarming/Halloween party.

I saw had to, because I was pretty hot mess express at this point. T decided that we should just go straight to the party as it was already 10pm.

photo-3

So we were “those people” who showed up without a costume. Sorry Kayla!!

It was at this point that the guy on the right announced he was Polish and that he liked the Chicago Bears.. so for some reason in my drunken mind I decided that I needed to play matchmaker. I basically had him married to my friend Sara. Luckily he was a good sport though, and they have a date next week :-).

It was also at this point that I officially decided that I needed to chill out, hahah. So I did what I did best and went and found the resident animal and hung out with her :-).

photo-2

Kayla went all out with the decorations- my cats would murder me!

44

We made it home at a fairly decent hour and then it was back to work on Sunday. Sunday morning was definitely spent re-hydrating, but it wasn’t as painful as I thought it would be. haha.

After work on Sunday T, J and I went to the Phoenix Symphony and listen to Harry Potter/Halloween music. It was different than I was expecting, but they put on a super cute show for the kiddos. Dumbledore came out and introduced songs, and they had people flying Hedwig kites throughout the auditorium.

Annnd now everyone has no doubt about what a nerd I am :-).

After that I had to be an adult and meal plan, grocery shop, clean, pay bills and get gas.. cie la vie! It was a busy, and fun weekend all around.

How was your weekend? Did you do anything, or did ya stay in and have a quiet one?

Weekend Recap.. A Day Late

Sleeping in the truck, no shame, begging

These three pictures pretty much summarize our weekend last weekend. It was AMAZING!

T and I joked that when we are old and gray we are going to have a bunch of pictures of our dogs traveling, but none of us. I’m okay with that. 🙂 (At least for now!)

There was some of this:

PicMonkey Collage1

Exploring

We packed dog food, and then promptly forgot it at home. So we ended up taking a trip into Winslow. It was everything I have ever heard about it– completely boring! haha! Buuut it was fun to get out for a bit.

And plenty of that:

PicMonkey Collage

As you can see we kept in pretty in check last weekend. There was plenty of eating going on, but we did keep it pretty “clean”. Beer never counts as clean when you’re at the cabin– right??

This was the first 24/7 time T and I spent together in awhile. He sees me eat dinner (usually when I eat the worst), but not breakfast or lunch. The 24/7 time was good- I think he finally gets that I am serious about it. We had  a bit of a “come to Jesus” talk about how I really wanted to work on cleaning up our my dinners.

He was great, and really supported me. Two things make me really believe it this time though:

1.) He went grocery shopping with me when we got home on Sunday

2.) He ate Skinny Taste Buffalo Chicken Wraps with me. Lettuce and all! I got him tortillas for them thinking there was no way he would do lettuce- but he wanted lettuce.. and even said he preferred it!

_______________________________________________________________________________

Thanks to the aforementioned beer I decided last minute that I wanted to have a birthday party. Apparently my new go to thing to do when I am drinking is invite everyone I know  to events.

So between working, commuting, cooking, gyming, and not losing my mind this week I am party planning! woohoo!

I decided it’s going to be tiki theme. I found some cute stuff online- so expect lots of pictures next week 🙂

((A Wild Saturday Night)) A Monster Of A Weekend Recap Post

As usual this post isn’t particularly timely, but I am posting anyway.

Last weekend was definitely the best I have had in a LONG time.

Friday night T and I went and saw this is the end. We had some old gift cards to use up, so we went to dinner and a movie for way cheap. Always a win. This is the end isn’t the typical kind of movie I usually see, but I’ve been in a weird movie mood recently. First Identity Thief, and now this. Anyway, the movie was completely ridiculous, but entertaining. Hint- one of the most beautiful men in the world makes a surprise appearance in it, so that def helped. After the movie we decided to go to the grill for a bit, and hung out with a bunch of friends we don’t get to see much of these days.

Saturday morning T and I got up with the intention of cleaning the house.. We didn’t. We relaxed together, and then ended up going to get shoes for T, Father’s Day cards and sushi in Glendale.

Next up- I met D for coffee. I got a new phone a couple weeks back. EVERYONE and their mother (literally) told me I needed to ditch the Iphone and get the new Galaxy. I hated it. But I did keep it for a week and tried to give it a chance.. While I had it for the week I went on a crazy amazon phone case+accessory buying binge. Lucky for D we have similar taste and she has the galaxy. Most of the cases I bought were cheapies and not even worth paying the return shipping so D gets lots of unexpected sparkly things. haha.

Anyway, I met up with her and we had coffee and talked for 2-3 hours. While we were talking we both mentioned we needed pedicures, bad. We decided to walk over to the place that was next door and they had two chairs next to each other and the prices were decent so we went for it.

photo

The woman who did D’s toes was hilarious. She started to put the color on D’s toes that D picked- but then announced it was too light. So she got up and got a similar, but darker color, tried it and then did the same. So she gets up again and gets a third color, this one is “too dry”. 4th try- she finally picks up the bottle D wanted to begin with- walks half way across the salon- turns around, puts it back and picks up the one seen above. Can’t win them all I guess. lol

I am also still trying to decide if 24 is too old for hot pink?

After we got our toes done we went back to the coffee place and got another coffee and hung out for another 2 hours. D is one of my best friends, but our schedules never seem to line up. It was soo awesome getting to catch up with her. 🙂 I miss being in high school with her and getting to talk everyday.

T and I had plans to go see The Great Gatsby later that evening, so he came and retrieved me around 7. This was going to be “free” again- love those gift certificates. The place were going is actually really cool- it’s dinner theatre. (Still pretty new to PHX). T and I got there 30 minutes before the movie was to start, and they didn’t have any seats together. womp womp.

The Biltmore is across the street so we decided to grab dinner over there and then walk around the shops for a bit. I always forget how beautiful that place is, love it.

After that was when things got really CRAZY...

For father’s day my dad asked me to bake for him so I went over to my parents house and premade the cookie dough for the next day. While I was over there my mom kept telling me about this new “basket” thing she had gotten to help her bring her groceries in.

I saw it and it really only had one use in my mind.. behold:
